US presidential election campaign heats up

With less than three months to go before the US presidential elections, campaigning has moved up a gear with President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney going head to head on the big election themes. This week, social issues have dominated the headlines after Republican Senator Todd Akin sparked controversy with his remarks about "legitimate rape". He apologised for the inappropriate choice of vocabulary after the statement, but the row has polarised supporters of both camps.
