Violence flares up again between loyalists and republicans

Belfast has been shaken by violence since Sunday, as tensions between loyalists and republicans in Northern Ireland come to a head. 300 republicans took part in a traditional parade on Sunday, in an area where loyalists had been barred from doing the same. Such marches are a large part of Northern Irish culture and represent the divisions and bloody history between communities: republicans, who want Northern Ireland to be governed by Dublin, and loyalists, who support the British crown.

Tensions running high after murder of British soldier

Two weeks ago, two young men - acting "in the name of Islam" - killed British soldier Lee Rigby outside his army barracks in south London, in broad daylight. The attack sparked a fierce response, not least from the far-right community, which seized the opportunity to hold several demonstrations. Our reporters in London wanted to find out whether the recent protests by the far-right reflect its growing popularity throughout the whole of the UK.

'Green shoots of recovery' in the US economy?

While the eurozone is wading through troubled economic waters, and growth is hard to find, there are signs that things are improving elsewhere. And it's where many would say the whole crisis began in the first place: in the United States. The country that created the subprime mortgage crisis, and thought unemployment had no end, is now seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Don't cry "economic recovery" just yet, but the signs - those famous green shoots - are there.

WikiLeaks: Bradley Manning trial begins

Three years after his arrest, former US soldier Bradley Manning is going on trial. He's accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of highly sensitive US government documents to Julian Assange's whistleblowing website, WikiLeaks. While for many Americans - particularly the authorities, who were highly embarrassed by the leak - Manning is a traitor who must be punished, others are coming out in support of him, saying it's not a crime to reveal "war crimes".

Berlin pushes parents to make more babies

A blossoming economy, rosy employment figures, and a society where everything seems to work - Germany seems the ideal country to settle down with a family. And yet Germans are reluctant to have children. Despite a hefty €200 billion of public money behind its family policy, Germany has one of the lowest birth rates in Europe. With a general election now looming, political parties are scrambling to offer families - or potential parents - more incentives.

Who is the alleged attacker of the soldier at La Defénse?

A man is being held by French police, accused of stabbing a soldier in the throat last week. The attack took place at the La Defénse business district outside Paris, when the adjoining shopping centre was swarming with Saturday shoppers. There has been speculation that the suspect, Alexandre Dhaussy, was inspired by the Islamist attack on a British soldier in London just days before. Dhaussy was already known to intelligence services, but there had not been enough evidence to arrest him.

We Feel Your Pain In America

An arch-bishop in San Francisco named (Corlileone) was just appointed almost directly by the Vatican in the United States after getting a DUI. White Roman Catholics in the U.S. feel like Jake Olsen (http://www.comicvine.com/jake-olsen/29-12312/). Perhaps, after the Notre Dame - Navy game in Dublin there would be understandings taken under place involving both the Anglican and Roman Catholic Church. Unfortunately, at the moment, if you are a white roman catholic concerned about eye level you are basically a Disney Movie like "ParaNorman." If blow-back is correct, after 1764 there was a big deal in Europe from 1918 - 1945. Same thing in the United States from 1776 - 1865. Apparently, Episcopal is the new "White Roman Catholic" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Episcopal_Church_(United_States), if China doesn't get its act together. No wonder no one can actually hit someone!
