Libya orders militias to disband in bid to end lawlessness
Libya's interim government wants to end the lawlessness that's swept the country since the revolution that toppled Muammar Gaddafi. In the absence of a proper police force, self-appointed militias have sprung up to enforce their idea of law and order. Yet some have started acting outside the law themselves; one in particular is accused of being behind the killing of the US ambassador two weeks ago. Tripoli has now ordered the break-up of all unauthorised militias.
