The EU fiscal treaty: a political test for Hollande

The debate over ratification of the EU fiscal treaty has led to anger in the French parliament and the streets of Paris. In the wake of the protests, lawmakers have been discussing whether to ratify the Treaty, which was signed by former President Nicolas Sarkozy last March. President François Hollande had pledged to renegotiate it if elected, but he’s now encouraging MPs to support it. He’s been accused of backtracking, and faces divisions within his own party.
