Athens braced for a day of rage

Athens is on high alert and Angela Merkel is on the front of every Greek newspaper as her visit to the Greek capital raises tensions. Meanwhile, in the US, reactions to Mitt Romney’s speech on foreign policy are lukewarm, and an elderly couple in the UK discover an unusual plant in their backyard.

English-language daily Katherimini says security has been bolstered in Athens and protests are banned within the perimeter of Angela Merkel’s official visit.

Greek newspaper Demokratia tells Merkel to prepare herself for the anger of the Greek people, who see her as a symbol of the tough austerity measures the country has had to endure.

Politico takes a look at Mitt Romney’s foreign policy, saying he’s vague on a number of issues, while The Guardian suggests the two candidates share many similar positions on international relations.

Finally, an elderly couple plant a sapling in their garden, only to find a huge cannabis plant a few months later! The Telegraph has the story.
