Between 28,000 and 80,000 thousand Syrians have gone missing since the uprising against President Bashar al Assad began last year. Many of those may have died in combat, while others could be being held in prison by the regime, where toruture is rife and relatively few people come out alive. The NGO Azaaz is trying to keep on top of those figures over the border in Lebanon, but it's hard to reassure families who have no idea if their loved ones are alive or dead.

French President François Hollande has said he'll pull troops out of Mali by the end of April. The move came as it was announced that another French soldier had been killed in the country, the fourth since France launched a military intervention against jihadists that were threatening stability in the African state. 300,000 still homeless 2 years after Fukushima disaster

Monday 11th March will mark 2 years since the tsunami that killed 16,000 people and caused the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Hundreds of thousands were left homeless when their houses were washed away by the tide, while others were evacuated from the zone surrounding the nuclear power plant. Yet 24 months later, some 300,000 survivors are still living in makeshift residential "camps" and the effort to build new homes for those affected could take another ten years.
