Laguiole vs Laguiole: knives are out in the battle of the brand

Can you take the name of a town or village, register it as a trademark, and then control which products can or cannot have that name attached to them? One man has done just that, using the name Laguiole, which is a village in the south-west of France, synonymous for the manufacturing of its famous knives. France went to find out more.
