IN THE PAPERS

An overview of the stories making the French and international newspaper headlines. From Monday to Friday live at 7.20 am and 9.20 am Paris time.

We meet again, Mr Bond

The French papers are dominated by the aftershocks of a controversial competitiveness report, and François Hollande comes in for criticism in a popularity poll. Also, UMP politicians go head to head in a battle to lead the party, and film critics are wowed by the new James Bond film.

Libération puts François Hollande on the front page, and the shockwaves caused by the competitiveness report. The paper says leaked details from the Gallois report have been detrimental to the party, while economists debate the finer points of its findings in an editorial.

Le Figaro headlines on the president’s plummeting popularity, saying a majority of French people polled don’t believe he’s doing a good job.

In the opposition UMP camp, François Fillon and Jean-François Copé go head to head in a televised debate, as both men vie to become party leader – Le Parisien and Rue89 are not enthused by their arguments.

And French cinema critics are largely in thrall to Mr Bond: the latest 007 film is released in France, to glowing reviews.
