Iceland: a geothermal superpower
Iceland has long been harnessing energy courtesy of the earth. Today geothermal sources supply heating to 90% of Icelandic households as well as generating one quarter of the country's electricity.
This week Environment heads to this uniquely positioned island to explore how the rest of the world can benefit from its expertise.
We also visit the home of President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, who's the most ardent advocate of Iceland's renewable energy credentials.
Finally we look at the feasibility of building a giant undersea cable to export some of Iceland's excess green energy to mainland Europe.
