As polls open in the US, we take a look at how social media is relaying voters' experience, as they stand in line to cast their ballots. Number-crunchers come in for criticism from the press, as statisticians try to "call" the election before time, and media outlets try to outdo each other in providing sophisticated electoral graphics!

MEDIAWATCH, Wed. 18/4/2012: Carla Bruni has been tweeting and putting up status updates on her husband's Twitter and Facebook accounts, this as the communications efforts of all parties goes into overdrive in the final week of the campaign. Also, the "2012 Boring Film Festival" (Festival du film chiant) and a blog from a socialist mole inside François Hollande's HQ unveils a surprising degree of pessimism in the favourite's camp.
