Women hit most by poverty in France

A report by the Secours Catholique, the French branch of the Catholic charity Caritas, has revealed that women and immigrants have been hit hardest by the financial crisis. Women account for 57% of people seeking help from the association, almost 10% more than a decade ago. Even people with secure jobs are living under the breadline. Getting out of the poverty trap once you've fallen into it, says the charity, is taking longer than ever before.
