France's 'Canard Enchaîné' publishes recordings of prank phone calls

France's top satirical paper has decided to break with a tradition of having almost no web presence and has posted two audio files of prank calls. Among the victims is Claude Guéant, the former interior minister who is currently embroiled in a scandal over alleged government slush funds and illegal fundraising from Libya for Sarkozy's 2007 campaign. Both Guéant and his UMP colleague Patrick Devedjian let some "cats out of the bag". First though, the French Army hits social media!

However, Nicolas Sarkozy did suffer a similar degree of criticism, even if the nature of that criticism was very different - instead of being cast as too 'weak', Hollande's predecessor was seen as omnipresent, or the "Omni-President".

Three former cabinet colleagues have all but thrown Claude Guéant to the sharks this week, distancing themselves from his explanations for suspicious cash payments while he was Interior Minister. Also, why didn't Guéant seek an exportation certificate for the two Dutch paintings he claims to have sold overseas?
