General Carter F. Ham, Commander, United States Africa Command

The Commander of the US Africa command, General Carter F. Ham, tells Marc Perelman he hopes a diplomatic solution can still be found in Mali. Nevertheless, he is confident that African forces are up to the task of retaking the Islamist-held north of the country with Western support, possibly with US drone strikes. As for the scandals involving several top US generals, he feels they are hurting the image and morale of the army.
