Conservative party: the nightmare scenario

The election of the president of France's conservative UMP party was supposed to be a straightforward affair. Former PM François Fillon was supposed to cruise to victory against Jean-François Copé. And France is now waging war in the Sahara desert, to rid Mali and the entire region of these groups. How does this impact the Hollande presidency? Will it define his political future?
