Fifteen years after the war, the country is still struggling to overcome its ethnic divisions, a major hurdle on the road to EU membership. Among those trying to bridge that divide is the Oscar-winning director of “No Man’s Land”, Danis Tanović. Europe District met him and his new party Naša Stranka. We also followed the country’s new multi-ethnic army and we listened to the melancholic sound of Sevdah, the traditional Bosnian music.

Croatia: on Europe’s doorstep (part 1)

The country hopes to become an EU member by the end of 2011. In its bid to join the club the Croatian government has vowed to crackdown on corruption and better integrate its Serb minority. Europe District went to see how things have been going so far and put the question to Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and President Ivo Josipović.
