Strauss-Kahn expected to settle with US sex accuser Diallo

It was a scandal that shocked France and destroyed hopes that the IMF chief could one day become French president. Dominique Strauss-Kahn's reputation was left in tatters when a chambermaid at a New York hotel accused him of attempted rape in May 2011. Although criminal charges were dropped, he's now expected to reach a financial settlement with Nafissatou Diallo, before facing allegations of "aggravated pimping" back in France.

Islamist threat haunts reopening of schools in Timbuktu

Just weeks after Islamist fighters left Timbuktu, the population there is starting to get back to normal. Schools had been banned under the radical Islamists' rule, with fighters forbidding that girls and boys share a classroom. This comes just day after Human Rights Watch claimed that the army and the police may have been involved in a number of those disappearances. Taking power three months ago, incoming president Enrique Pena Nieto vowed to put an end to kidnappings - but can he keep that promise?

Kenyans cautious ahead of presidential elections

Kenyans go to the polls on Monday, to elect a new president, parliament and local officials. The nation is holding its breath, as the last national elections in 2007 triggered violence that killed 1,300 people and displaced over 650,000 according to Human Rights Watch. Our reporters Duncan Woodside and Stephanie Braquehais have just visited the Rift Valley, the epicentre of the violence five years ago, where they talked to survivors and peace activists.

More Middle East violence over Israeli prison death

The funeral has been held of Arafat Jaradat, the Palestinian who died in an Israeli prison over the weekend. He'd been arrested for throwing stones at soldiers; the authorities say he died of a heart attack but Palestinians believe he was beaten. The fallout has led to violence between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers in Hebron, mindful of the fact that there are still 4700 being held prisoner in the Jewish State.
