The Louvre is heading north
Paris' world-famous Louvre museum is setting itself a formidable challenge: kickstarting a cultural revival in the downtrodden northern French town of Lens, where unemployment is sky-high and there isn’t even a cinema.
As the French president himself cuts the ribbon on the Louvre Lens, we find out what treasures lie inside, and ask how the project might help turn around a town more commonly associated with its coal mine slag heaps than cultural masterpieces.
