Architect Oscar Niemeyer dies aged 104

Famed as the architect of Brasilia, Oscar Niemeyer built over 600 buildings worldwide, including the United Nations headquarters in New York and the French Communist Party HQ in Paris. His Communist Party membership forced him into exile for 21 years during Brazil's military dictatorship. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has paid tribute to Niemeyer, citing his famous words, "without dreaming, we would not make things happen" and saying that Niemeyer dreamed and achieved more than most.

French submarines in murky waters

Pakistan is said to be close to buying three French submarines, but negotiations are unfolding in a context of suspicions of corruption linked to a previous submarine sale, said to be linked to the Karachi bombing of 2002.
