Russian-born French painter Marc Chagall (1887-1985) is most famous for his poetic pictures that revisit Biblical and Jewish themes. But he was also a fine sculptor, ceramicist and costume-designer. Roubaix’s art venue La Piscine stages a show that does justice to the artist’s other talents. Plus, Mathieu Mercier’s solo show at the Ricard Foundation’s art venue in Paris proves his gift for visual puns and ironic minimalism.

French polymath Boris Vian's 1947 novel "L'Ecume des jours" has been brought to the screen with relentless creativity by director Michel Gondry. Upstaged by hand-made gizmos and analogue special effects, Romain Duris, Audrey Tautou and Omar Sy star in the film, whose English title is "Mood Indigo."
