Taliban fighters lay down their arms for love and peace
In late 2010, NATO launched a peace and reintegration programme for Taliban fighters, in a bid to weaken Afghanistan's insurgency before foreign troops pull out. The scheme aims to give war-weary Taliban rebels a chance to peacefully surrender their weapons. In exchange, the fighters are given partial amnesty, a Koran and $360 over three months. So far the programme has had mixed results, though it's been relatively effective in Western parts of Afghanistan.
