French court halts Peugeot Citroen job cuts

A French appeals court has suspended a Peugeot Citroen restructuring plan that calls for 8,000 job cuts in line with demands from unions at parts subsidiary Faurecia, union lawyers said on Tuesday.

A French appeal court has suspended a restructuring plan involving 8,000 job cuts at carmaker Peugeot Citroen as sought by the CGT union at parts subsidiary Faurecia, the lawyer for the workers Fiodor Rilov said on Tuesday.

The CGT union had argued that the management of PSA Peugeot Citroen had not fulfilled its legal obligations to inform staff representatives and in particular the European works committee.

This decision, whereby a Labour Union can block a corporation from addressing fiscal difficulties just adds to the poisonous business atmosphere in France. Clearly socialism in France is just not working.
