A fallen hero

Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius dominates international front pages as he appears in court over the shooting of his girlfriend. The horsemeat scandal continues, as the International Herald Tribune looks into the murky underworld of illegal equine meat, and fish could be ingesting human psychiatric drugs through contaminated water systems.

The Times of South Africa overturns the "golden boy narrative" that accompanied Oscar Pistorius, in a searing profile. The UK Telegraph follows suit, painting a darker picture of the celebrated athlete. And the Guardian takes a look at the climate of fear, domestic violence and gun ownership in South Africa.

Fears over drugs found in horsemeat are on the front page of the International Herald Tribune, and an article in The Independent raises concerns over the slaughter of horses in the UK.

And fish under the influence: a new study observes the effects of prescription psychiatric drugs on fish.
