Turkey’s opposition urges government to clarify al Qaeda stance

Text by HÜRRIYET DAILY NEWS

Latest update : 2013-03-05

Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has called on the government to clarify its stance on al Qaeda, after Turkey’s ambassador to Chad said on Twitter that the group “is not a terrorist organisation.”

Turkish opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Faruk Logoglu on Monday urged the government to clarify whether or not it considered al Qaeda as a terrorist group.

The request comes after the Turkish ambassador to Chad Ahmet Kavas posted a message on the social network Twitter claiming that the group “is not a terrorist organisation.”

So far no official statement has been released by the Turkish government in reaction to the ambassador’s remarks.
