Kurdish PKK rebels in northern Iraq have released a group of eight Turkish hostages held since 2011. The move comes as part of efforts to end a decades-old conflict between the Kurdish rebel group and Turkey.
Kurdish rebels based in northern Iraq freed eight Turkish soldiers and officials on Wednesday as part of peace efforts between Turkey and the PKK rebel group aimed at ending a 28-year-old insurgency. The eight hostages had been held at PKK bases in the mountains of northern Iraq since 2011.
