'The Lebanese Rocket Society'
In the early 1960s, during the Cold War, and way before you could just type into a search engine "build rocket at home + launch into space," a group of university students started their own space program. This completely forgotten episode in Lebanese history is evocated with talent in the documentary "The Lebanese Rocket Society."
Next, Mexican director Carlos Reygadas won the Directing prize at Cannes in 2012 for his incredibly strange, disjointed and haunting film "Post Tenebras Lux." Also, the charming hand-drawn animated feature "Ernest and Celestine" is out on DVD.
Finally, sometimes old filmmakers are more thrilling than young ones, as veteran documentary makers Claude Lanzmann (age 87) and Marcel Ophuls (age 85) plan to demonstrate with new films in Cannes.
