Bradley Manning's court martial begins, surrounding biggest ever leak of US classified information

Few US papers talk about the court martial of Private Bradley Manning, which begins today. But two UK lefties point out the divergence between American democratic values and what they say is a culture of ever-increasing state secrecy. Also, Turkey’s protests have spread from Istanbul to numerous cities, but do they amount to a Turkish Spring?

The Washington Post covers the protests in support of Bradley Manning in Fort Meade, Maryland, saying the man charged with espionage and aiding the enemy is a divisive figure – heroic whistleblower to some, traitor spilling state secrets to others.

The Guardian and the Independent argue it’s the US government that should be in the dock for clamping down on the right to free speech.

And the English-speaking Turkish paper Hurriyet Daily News tells us why the protests in Turkey are not turning into a Turkish Spring.
