Rafael Nadal has become the first man to win the same major eight times after defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the final of the French Open (6-3, 6-2, 6-3). Follow all the action as it happened on our liveblog.

Rafael Nadal beat fellow Spaniard David Ferrer on Sunday to win a record eighth title at Roland Garros.

The straight-set victory (6-3, 6-2, 6-3) capped a sweet return for the 27-year-old Spaniard after a seven-month layoff due to knee trouble.
