Navalny jailed: a clear message from the Kremlin?

Russia's leading dissident was jailed today for stealing timber. Alexei Navalny wasn't surprised by the verdict, nor the 5-year jail term he received. Navalny's parting words to supporters were "don't do nothing", and his supporters have vowed to continue the fight. Laura Baines and her panel discuss whether this is yet another sign that the Kremlin will not tolerate disloyalty and dissent.

  • Nina ZAKHARINA-BEREZNER, Member "Russie Libertés" ("Russia Freedoms");
  • Douglas HERBERT, France 24 International Affairs Editor;
  • John LAUGHLAND, Academic Dean, Institute of Democracy and Cooperation (by satellite from Bristol, UK);
  • Rachel DENBER, Deputy Director, Europe and Central Asia, Human Rights Watch.
