Monaco defeat Bastia 3-0 to secure top spot

Monaco defeated Bastia 3-0 at home on Wednesday to secure its place at the top of Ligue 1, despite pressure from defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Forward Radamel Falcao scored twice and Emmanuel Riviere got the other goal as Monaco beat Bastia 3-0 at home Wednesday to maintain its two-point lead over Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the French league.

It was a night for strike partners, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic set up the winning goal for Edinson Cavani in PSG’s scrappy 1-0 win at Valenciennes as both teams maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

But while Falcao and Riviere have 13 goals between them, despite playing less time together, Ibrahimovic and Cavani have only five and the highly-anticipated partnership between two of the world’s best strikers has yet to properly click.

Falcao tops the scoring charts with seven goals in as many games.
