As it happened: Police launch Paris manhunt

Police launched a city-wide manhunt Monday for a gunman suspected of two shootings in the French capital, including at the left-leaning Libération daily and at the country’s financial hub. Follow events as they happened on FRANCE 24’s blog below.

 

  • On Monday morning, an assailant opened fire at the central Paris office of left-wing daily newspaper ‘Liberation’. A photographer was seriously injured.
  • Around one hour later, shots were fired at the headquarters of the Societé Générale bank in the financial district of La Defense west of Paris. A gunman briefly held a man hostage before fleeing the area.
  • Monday’s incidents came days after a shooting at the BFM – TV station on Friday.
  • French Interior Minister Manuel Valls has said security has been tightened at news organisations in Paris.
