Russia blamed for Kiev's cold feet on EU deal

Protests are continuing at Kiev's decision to pull the plug on the Association Agreement with the European Union, a treaty due to be signed this week in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Many observers believe Ukraine’s backpedalling was over fears that Russia would issue economic sanctions against the former Soviet state. Ukraine has been performing a difficult balancing act between the EU and Russia recently, with most Ukrainians divided over the best course for their country's future.
