French count cost of New Year tax hikes

French consumers are double-checking their change this week as a raft of new tax rises come into effect. The biggest change is in Value Added Tax on goods and services, which is increasing on things such as eating out and train tickets. Latvians, meanwhile, are getting to grips with their new currency – the euro.
