This was the week the Geneva 2 conference on Syria finally got underway in Switzerland, bringing members of the Assad regime and the opposition Syrian National Coalition together in the same conference centre, if not around the same table. The talks got off to a very shaky start indeed, with diplomats wondering if they would collapse before they had even begun. So what can Geneva 2 hope to achieve?
