Hollande’s alleged lover Julie Gayet attends French film awards

Actress Julie Gayet, rumoured to be having a long-term affair with President François Hollande, made her first public appearance since the scandal broke at the French César film awards on Friday.

Gayet has been nominated as “best supporting actress” for her role in Bertrand Tavernier’s political farce “Quai d’Orsay”.

There was huge speculation as to whether 41-year-old Gayet, who has kept a low profile since Closer magazine revealed the affair in mid-January, would actually show up at the prestigious event. The Césars are often referred to as the French Oscars.

The most closely watched category of the night, however, is for Best Picture, where Abdellatif Kechiche’s Palme d’Or-winning lesbian romance “Blue is the Warmest Colour” is competing against Alain Guiraudie’s shivery Hitchcockian thriller “Stranger by the Lake” as well as Guillaume Gallienne’s autobiographical comedy “Me, Myself and Mum” among others.
