A hellish hospital prison in Greece, police acting like thugs in Venezuela, and more

A news show produced exclusively from content provided by amateurs. Photos, videos and personal accounts from our network of Observers around the world - all checked by our staff in Paris. First run Saturdays at 8:10 am Paris time.

Story 1: Greece

We begin today with a horrible video from Greece. It was shot in a prison hospital near Athens, and sent to us by one of the inmates. He managed to get a mobile phone into the prison to document the horrible conditions he and his fellow inmates live in. Most of them are serving time for minor offenses.

The Greek Justice Ministry has said the hospital will get additional resources to address the problems seen in the video. In the meantime, the hospital guards tried to confiscate our Observer's telephone to silence his complaints.

Story 2: Venezuela

Now to Venezuela, where there've been weeks now of protests against the government. The protesters - many of them students - have at times attacked the police with stones and Molotov cocktails. The police have responded with their arsenal of anti-riot devices. But, our Observer tells us, they've also been provoking the students.

The Venezuelan government says its police are just responding to violence by the protestors.
