Rwanda held commemorations Sunday to mark the 20th anniversary of the country's genocide. Follow the events surrounding the 1994 mass killings to their modern-day legacy.

April 6, 1994: The plane of Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana, an ethnic Hutu, is shot down. This sparks a campaign of retribution, leading to the slaughter of 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus in 100 days.
