Indian election: Votes for sale

On April 7th, India’s marathon general election kicked off. Until May 12th, some 814 million Indians are eligible to cast their ballots. Hindu nationalist leader Narendra Modi, the controversial leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, is the favourite to take over from the ruling Congress Party of the Gandhi dynasty, worn out by multiple corruption scandals and unable to revive the economy. Our reporters take you behind the scenes of this mammoth election.

Our report is presented as a campaign diary. You will see the main candidates... but also puppet candidates. We film political rallies... but also go behind the scenes of these rallies. We meet the men who decide the election in the shadows, and others, who are prepared to do anything to woo voters.

Across the country, we managed to film rare scenes of corruption - amusing, but sadly significant of the state of the country.
