Hanan Ashrawi: Palestinian unity deal 'will empower us in our Arab, regional and international relations'

Hanan Ashrawi is a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, and for many years served as national spokesperson during peace talks with Israel. For the Western media, Hanan Ashrawi has been a pundit of choice ever since her performances on ABC's "Nightline" in 1988, when she outshone the future Prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hanan Ashrawi tells Armen Georgian that Fatah-Hamas reconciliation does not mean the end of peace talks with Israel. But she puts the onus on Israel to engage with the core problems that need to be resolved. Ashrawi outlines the next steps after the national unity deal, and she sounds optimistic about the accord’s ability to boost the Palestinians on the regional and world stages.
