French government extends veto powers over foreign takeovers

France’s economy minister Arnaud Montebourg has signed a ministerial order which extends the government’s powers to veto foreign investment in French companies. French ministers are watching closely as engineering giant Alstom considers a €12.35 billion bid for its power generation business from General Electric.
