French football fans were treated to a thrilling victory on Sunday as the national team beat Honduras 3-0 in its first game of the World Cup in Brazil.
Karim Benzema sparked wild cheers across France when he opened up the score in Porto Alegre on a penalty kick shortly before half-time.
The Real Madrid striker was behind the team’s two other goals, including a shot fumbled by Honduras’s goalie and confirmed by FIFA’s new goal line technology.
It was the best start at a World Cup for ‘Les Bleus’ since 1998, and one French fans hope is a sign of good things to come in Brazil.
