Argentina are through to the semi-finals of the World Cup after overcoming Belgium thanks to an early Gonzalo Higuain goal in Brasilia on Saturday.

The match started brightly with both sides looking to attack, but it was Argentina who took the lead just eight minutes in, Higuain latching on to a deflected Angel Di Maria pass to send an excellent first-time shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Belgium looked to respond but though they had plenty of possession failed to create many chances and it was in fact Argentina who had the best opportunities to score with both Higuain and Lionel Messi coming close in the second half.

The only downside for Argentina was an injury to Di Maria that forced him off before the break and could keep him out of the semi-final, where they will meet the winner of tonight's other game that sees the Netherlands take on Costa Rica.
