New car registrations in Germany, a key measure of demand in one of the most important sectors of Europe's top economy, rose strongly in July, data showed on Monday.

A total of 270,249 new cars were registered last month, an increase of 6.8 percent compared with the figures for the same month in 2013, according to data compiled by the federal automobile agency, KBA.

In May, new registrations had fallen by 1.9 percent.
