Just when they needed it the most, the French women’s rugby World Cup team has noted a steep surge in support. On Wednesday, huge numbers of French citizens are expected to be glued to their TV sets as Les Bleus take on Canada in the semi-finals.
“They just don’t stop, compared to the men it really flows. It’s great!” an overjoyed supporter told FRANCE 24 when host nation France on Saturday beat Australia’s Wallabies 17-3 to reach the final four.
“It’s more active, they use their feet more,” another male fan said of the female rugby tactics. “It’s not as physical as men’s rugby, but the game’s more open.”
And the players have noted the hike in support too.
The other two teams to meet in the semi-finals are England and Ireland.
