Turkey's Tragedy: Outrage over Nation's Worst Mining Disaster

It's now officially Turkey's worst ever mining disaster. At least 282 people have been killed after a fire and explosion at the Soma mine in western Turkey. There are conflicting reports as to its cause, but the outcome is chillingly unequivocal. Turkish media report the youngest victim was 15. How, in 2014, can so many die in a coal mine? And what does this tragedy tell us about Turkey?
