Ebola: 'The biggest enemies we have are complacency and fatigue'

The most dangerous stage for Ebola-stricken countries has been overcome but, with a drop in the number of contaminations, Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed, head of the UN mission for Ebola emergency response, worries the countries reeling from the outbreak are now facing a new challenge. "Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea were doing very well in terms of economic growth and suddenly all that gain has been lost because of Ebola", he says in an interview with FRANCE 24’s Armen Georgian.

These countries need the international community’s help to rebuild their economies, but Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed fears that their call for more funds will fall on deaf ears now that the crisis appears less urgent. “The biggest enemies we have today are complacency and fatigue”, he explains.
