François of Arabia: Hollande's Budding Friendship with the Gulf (part 1)

The French president is now in Riyadh after sealing a deal in Doha to sell Rafale fighter jets. On Tuesday, François Hollande will become the first ever Western leader to attend a Gulf Cooperation Council summit. What does it say about Hollande? He ran as a socialist and champions human rights but is prepared to do business with regimes that are big on the death penalty, won't let women drive, and who have shown a patchy record in stopping the financing of terrorism.
