Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will soon be on his way to Manchester United after agreeing to join the Premier League club it was confirmed Saturday, for a fee believed to be in the region of 21 million euros.

"We tried to convince him to stay at Bayern Munich," the German club’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

The Bundesliga club executive praised the Germany player’s record at the club adding, "We sanctioned the move at his request".

Manchester United confirmed the news via their official website.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, subject to a medical and personal terms,” it said.
