Rail traffic was severely disrupted in the West of France on Sunday after a high-speed train (TGV) hit a tractor on the line, injuring two people.

France’s national rail service, the SNCF, announced delays of up to four hours at Paris Montparnasse station. At least two trains were cancelled.

The collision took place on one of the busiest weekends for holidaymakers in France.

The double-decker TGV was headed for Rennes when it hit the tractor. The driver of the tractor was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The train driver and a passenger both suffered minor injuries, according to the SNCF.

Passengers at Rennes station were told to expect delays of between 20 minutes and five hours, according to an AFP journalist.

The SNCF information desk was overrun with passengers on this particularly busy weekend.
