El Salvador is one of the countries worst affected by the Zika virus. The small Central American nation is barely 200 km in length, but nearly 8,000 cases of Zika have already been diagnosed. It also has some of the strictest abortion laws in the world. Faced with fears of the consequences of the virus for newborn babies, such as microcephaly, the Ministry of Health has issued its recommendation to women: "Don't get pregnant until 2018".
