Ever wondered what goes on at Cannes beyond the red carpet? FRANCE 24’s Catherine Nicholson takes a behind-the-scenes look at the prestigious film festival.

The 2016 Cannes Film Festival is held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, a massive convention centre near the city’s old port.

There are a total of 21 films in competition for this year’s Palme d’or award, which will be announced on May 22.

But Cannes is so much more than a film festival. It is also a marketplace for movies and ideas, an opportunity to make professional contacts and a major promotional event for international film boards as well as brands.
